Stem Cells Spin PLC is the first bio-tech spin-off business in Poland to successfully pass the way from idea to market. Its achievement is based on the research conducted by scientists from Wroclaw Medical University, who discovered the ability of MIC-1 deer antler stem cells to regenerate.
Two recently acquired patents confirm the innovative character of products that are to be developed on the basis of MIC-1. Acquiring this patent protection brings the company closer to fulfilling its business goals. ‘We presently have three crucial patents that will allow us to execute the first stage of our strategy’ says Mr. Janisław Muszyński, CEO of Stem Cells Spin PLC. ‘Thanks to the patent protection we can initiate the process of introducing new products to the dermocosmetics market and animal-cosmetics market. First of the patents, acquired in March 2011, protects the method of multiplying stem cells obtained from a growing antler of the Cervidae family. Also the newly acquired patents are of great importance, as they protect the methods of MIC-1 stem cell lineage extraction and their application.
First regeneration products of Stem Cells Spin PLC will be launched onto the polish market in March or April this year. Further steps involve the sales of medical products and veterinary medicines. Sale of pharmaceuticals (for human use) is the intended third stage, due to the most lengthy registration procedures. ‘Our studies confirm the possibility to utilize this substance in various dermatological problems, both medical and veterinary’ claims Mr. Grzegorz Smak, member of Stem Cells Spin’s board. ‘Regardless of works aimed to launch the existing products, we still continue our research which may help to handle many hardly-treatable conditions’ adds Mr. Smak.
In February, Stem Cells Spin PLC had its initial public offering, which provided funds fo R&D operations and releasing first products. Despite the intended income from sales of products, the company is considering application for further funding to institutions such as National Science Centre (Polish: Narodowe Centrum Nauki), National Research and Development Centre (Polish: Narodowe Centrum Badań i Rozwoju) and Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (Polish: Polska Agencja Rozwoju Przedsiębiorczości). Stem Cells Spin also applies for subsidiary funds for research of innovative products. Apart from the polish market the company also aims to enter the European and Asian markets.
