Creation of WCBC is the final act of a long and successful cooperation between universities and scientific institutes in Wrocław. Letter of intent regarding WCBC has been signed on the 9th of January 2012 by representatives of WUT, UWr and PSA.
‘This way we legitimize our long-standing cooperation. We intend to apply for the status of Leading National Research Centre – LNRC (Polish: Krajowy Naukowy Ośrodek Wiodący – KNOW). This is our main objective the fulfillment of which will bring about prestige and new opportunities.’ explains Professor Tadeusz Więckowski, president of Wrocław University of Technology.
Holding the status of Leading National Research Centre will enable WCBC to apply for research funding and finance interdisciplinary training for research workers, PhD students and senior year students.
Scientists from WUT, UWr and PSA are going to carry out, among others, analytical, functional and structural studies of organic polymers, supramolecular materials, smart materials and biological macroparticles.
Additionally, they are going to conduct application studies directed mainly at creating new solutions for the renewable energy resources sector, advanced information technology or technology for medical diagnostics and treatment.
‘Coordination is essential, in order to avoid doubling ventures We count on the synergy effect.’ Professor Więckowski adds.
WCBC will comprise of WUT’s – Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Microsystem Electronics Photonics, UWr’s – Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Biotechnology and PSA’s – Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research and Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy.
