An agreement was signed on January 3 between the Lower Silesian Railways and the company Newag, which will supply 11 modern five-section trains before the end of the year. – These will be state-of-the-art vehicles meeting all requirements of modern agglomeration railways - assures Zbigniew Konieczek, president of Newag S.A. The new trains from the Impuls family are low-floor, open coach vehicles equipped with a full interior monitoring system, air-conditioning, modern passenger information system and, as requested, with ticket dispensers and punchers. Their interior was adjusted to the needs of passengers with impaired mobility: it features ramps, folded steps, lifts, broad aisles and a designated space for wheelchairs and bicycles. The agreement guarantees delivery of 11 five-section vehicles, whose value amounts to 266.5 million PLN gross, 81.2% of which comes from the EU funds. According to plans, the trains are to start their service on Lower Silesian railway links in late 2017. However, it is not the end of railway investments planned by the Marshal's Office. The voivodship authorities already have plans for more purchases (including diesel vehicles) as well as renewal of further railway lines. - What we're doing is a railway revolution in Lower Silesia. In this week alone we have funnelled already 1.5 billion PLN to this project - says Jerzy Michalak, member of the Lower Silesian authorities. - This is, however, not the end of the development of Lower Silesian Railways. Engineer Piotr Malepszak, who was in charge of the launch of the Pendolino system, among other things, is soon to join our team - added Michalak.
