Wrocław, the capital of Lower Silesia, as one of the two Polish cities, is in the first one hundred the most intelligent cities in the world, according to IESE Cities in Motion Index 2017 report. Apart from Wrocław, which was listed on the 95th place, also Warsaw was listed in the ranking, taking the 54th place. The top cities are New York, London and Paris.
Smart City is a concept according to which a city uses advanced technologies in order to improve the quality of life in all areas of the city functioning. All of this is intended to help citizens live better and reduce costs of upkeep of the whole city.
WROCŁAW LISTED ON THE 10TH PLACE
In the IESE Cities in Motion Index 2017 report, all aspects of urban life quality in 180 cities all over the world are analysed. The cities were analysed by a set of indicators related to human capital, social cohesion, economy, public administration, social participation, natural environment, mobility and transport, area development and planning, efficiency, and advanced technologies. In the area development and planning category, Warsaw was listed on the 6th place, and Wrocław on the 10th place.
WROCŁAW SMART CITY AND TRANSPORT
The majority of Smart City projects in Wrocław relate to transport. There are as many as 20 of them. Their aim is to improve mobility – to commute easily, fast and safely with the use of the state-of-the-art technologies. Taking care of the natural environment is also very important. Among the Smart City projects are: WRM – Wrocław City Bike, Wrocław Electric Vehicles Charging System, Development of Transfer Nodes of Public Transport in Wrocław, Wrocław Urban Card or Intelligent Transport System.
WROCŁAW AND CITY MANAGEMENT
Other 11 Smart City projects are related to city management, especially administration. Their aim is to provide services adjusted to the individual needs of citizens, develop creative administration by disclosing public information and eliminate barriers created by the city administration authority itself.
The remaining Smart City projects relate to, among others, education, economics, life style, environment and infrastructure.
