New logistics center of Amazon

Źródło: BloombergIn order to meet growing customer demand across all of Europe, Amazon plans to open two new fulfillment centers in Poland by August 2014, and another one in mid-2015. These centers will ensure Amazon continues to keep its promise of prompt and reliable delivery to European customers. At each of the fulfillment centers, Amazon plans to create up to 2,000 long term jobs, plus an additional 3,000 seasonal jobs at each center – in order to cover peak times during the holiday season.

Poland’s Minister of Economy, Janusz Piechociński, said: “We are thrilled to officially welcome Amazon to Poland. The establishment of three large fulfillment centers and the creation of thousands of jobs is no doubt a milestone for our further economic growth.”

“We are excited to increase our presence in Europe with three fulfillment centers in Poland, and to be creating thousands of full-time positions”, said Tim Collins, Director European Operations at Amazon. “We appreciate the state and local leaders who have helped us make these sites a reality in such an expeditious way.”

The Polish fulfillment centers will be integrated into Amazon’s European fulfillment network. The new centers will begin serving mainly the Amazon.de website and over time will serve customers from all of Amazon’s European websites. Thus, they will help Amazon handle current and future customer demand, as customers continue to respond to Amazon’s great selection and services. The new centers will ensure that Amazon customers enjoy the fast and reliable service they are accustomed to across Europe, especially during the ramp up phase before the holiday season.

The first two fulfillment centers in Poland are planned to start their operations in the second half of 2014 with approximately 1,200 employees working in each facility. Hiring for these roles will start in October of this year. Sławomir Majman, the President of the Management Board of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ) said: "Amazon's decision confirms the investment attractiveness of Poland".

One of the fulfillment centers opening in 2014 will be located close to Wrocław in Bielany Wrocławskie, in the municipality of Kobierzyce. This center will be leased from Goodman. The second one will be established in Sady close to the city of Poznań, in the municipality of Tarnowo Podgorne and be leased from Panattoni Europe. In 2015, a third center will be opened in 2015 in Bielany Wrocławskie, nearby the first Amazon center, being leased from Panattoni as well. Each of the new fulfillment centers will have a footprint of approximately 95,000 square meters (approximately 13 soccer fields). The country’s central location in Europe and a close connection to key markets were key reasons behind this decision, in addition to access to a great employment base.

The new centers in Poland are in support of Amazon’s continued growth in Europe, and as such there are no plans to close any existing EU fulfillment centers.
