Wrocław has once again become the capital of the Polish gaming industry. On Wednesday, February 25, Concordia Design hosted the thirteenth edition of Startup WRO Meetup, inaugurating the fourth season of the popular series of meetings organized by Startup Wroclaw. This time, the theme of the meeting was “Gamedev: WRO.” Its participants took a look at the situation and challenges facing the gaming industry—one of the strongest pillars of Wrocław's technological ecosystem.

We gathered about 150 people today. We talked about the condition of the Polish gamedev sector and how the Wrocław startup ecosystem compares to it. We also discussed the challenges, especially legal ones, that gamedev studios have to face.

Wrocław has a lot to be proud of in this industry

The event opened with the premiere of the report “Gamedev Industry Legal Challenges” based on discussions with experts during the Game Industry Conference. One of the most important points of the meeting was the panel discussion “Polishing the Industry: A Status Report on Wrocław & Polish Gamedev.”

The Wrocław gamedev market is large and interesting, and meetings of this type are a place to discuss important issues and invite people from other cities to join in. Today, we have representatives from Upper Silesia and Poznań here. It's great that Wrocław is becoming an important center where innovative ideas can be discussed. ARAW and Startup Wrocław are creating this opportunity by engaging our local entities. We really have something to be proud of in the game development industry here.

A chance to conquer the world

In the well-known Fireside Chat – VC Insights format, Maciej Frankowicz from Hard2beat and Mateusz Lichocki appeared on stage to talk about their first investment in a company from the sector – Ludus Al.

I talked about how artificial intelligence could revolutionize the game development industry in Poland. We have already taken the first steps towards this abroad. This is my first time at the WRO Meetup startup. I really like it here. There are lots of interesting people to talk to in a relaxed atmosphere. The topics themselves are very substantive and can give many people food for thought. You can also have a good debate, because there are both skeptics and AI fanatics here.

A region with great prospects

The expert part was enriched by lectures by Tomasz Florczak from ChallengeRocket, Krzysztof Murzyn and Małgorzata Brodzicka-Gromadzka from the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development.

I presented the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development's offer for companies in the gaming industry in the context of their entry into foreign markets. This is my first time at Startup WRO Meetup, although we have been cooperating with Startup Wroclaw and ARAW for many years. I greatly appreciate this cooperation. I think they are doing a great job, apart from the fact that the region is highly promising and there are really great companies operating here.

The creators showed their works

During this year's first Startup WRO Meetup, there was also a Gamedev Pitch section, during which the following people presented their projects: Thomas Fossgard from Free Fall Entertainment, Adrian Jabłonka from Madnetic Games, and Jan Surudo from TryVinci.

After the substantive part, the participants had the opportunity to engage in informal conversations and establish new contacts, which often turn into interesting collaborations and initiatives.

The next Startup WRO Meetup is coming in April

Startup WRO Meetup is an initiative that brings together startup creators, investors, scientists, and government representatives, creating a place for the exchange of knowledge and inspiration. Each edition is devoted to a different topic—from AI and fintech to gamedev—showing that the capital of Lower Silesia has enormous technological potential.

The next Startup WRO Meetup will take place on April 9, 2026, and the organizers cordially invite you to attend.
