Prof. Cezary Madryas has been appointed the new vice-chancellor of Wrocław University of Technology. His term is to begin on September 1 2016. Prof. Cezary Madryas completed studies at the Faculty of Civil Land Engineering of Wrocław University of Technology in 1976. He received his PhD degree in 1982, gained his habilitation in 1993, and in 2003 was granted the title of professor of technical sciences. Since 2007, he has been a full professor. Over his previous tenure at the university, he held posts including the head of the Institute of Land Engineering (2002-2005), Dean of the Faculty of Land and Hydraulic Civil Engineering (2005-2008), Deputy Vice Chancellor of Development (from 2008) and head of the Department of Construction Mechanics and Urban Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Land and Hydraulic Engineering (from 2014). Most research conducted by Prof. Madryas is related to broadly understood extension, modernisation and renovation of underground infrastructure in urban areas. He has carried out studies in this area of engineering in the majority of Polish cities, including Gdańsk, Katowice, Cracow, Poznań, Toruń, Warsaw, and Wrocław. Prof. Madryas has authored or co-authored eight cohesive works, including four monographs and four books published for academic purposes, such as "Microtunnelling", "Sewage Duct Constructions" and "Multipass Tunnels" which became essential study books for students of the faculties of civil engineering and environmental protection at Polish tertiary institutes. He is also the author or co-author of 480 studies documented in the DONA system, including 170 published scientific papers (65 of which have an international reach), as well as 290 research reports developed for the benefit of the national economy (SPR reports).
