Wroclaw will cooperate with Seongnam
On Thursday, November 7, Wroclaw Mayor Jacek Sutryk and Seongnam Mayor Sang-Jin Shin signed a memorandum of understanding on friendly relations between the cities. This is to be, the memorandum reads, cooperation “based on the principles of mutual respect and equality between the cities (...) to implement and promote projects.”
Seongnam is a city in the Republic of Korea located near Seoul. Until 50 years ago, it was an area of farmland and poor settlements. Today it has a population of more than one million. It is strong economically, culturally, and has an active art scene. It is home to cutting-edge ICT (Information and Communications Technology) and high-tech companies. In total, there are more than 1,600 hi-tech companies there, employing around 80,000 workers.
There are 5,000 Korean citizens living in Wroclaw. They live here, work here and hopefully feel comfortable here. This is one of the reasons why your visit and the memorandum we are going to sign are extremely important.
Mayor of Wroclaw, Jacek Sutryk, also mentioning how important social issues, science, culture, education are for Wroclaw
Wroclaw and Seongnam are to cooperate precisely in various fields of economy, culture, education or science.
Seongnam, a developing city in South Korea as part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and Wrocław, Poland's leading city in innovation and with the largest number of research and development centers, have excellent infrastructure in the areas of economy, technology and culture. I hope that our cooperation agreement will significantly contribute to the further development of the two regions.
Mayor of Seongnam, Sang-Jin Shin
The memorandum was drawn up in duplicate, each in Korean, Polish and English. It is intended to be the first step toward cooperation that may result in the signing of a partnership agreement.
Also on Friday, November 8, a delegation from Seongnam visited the LG Electronics plant in Biskupice Podgórne near Wroclaw. During the meeting with the company's representatives, the delegates had the opportunity to see the factory's modern production line personally and also see what a major and prosperous investment of the Korean LG corporation the plants located near Wroclaw are. Talks between the Mayor of Soengnam and President Lee Taeho concerned, among other things, the investment potential of the Wroclaw Agglomeration and the history of LG's investments in this region of the country.
