Resumption of flights in Wrocław and completion of the largest investment in the airport's history
After a 40-day break, planes are once again flying to and from Wrocław. Basel, Bologna, Malaga. Passengers from Wrocław flew to these and seven other cities on December 5, before sunrise. Before boarding the planes, they saw the hotel in operation and the new features in the terminal: the renovated food court and shopping area. What else has changed at the airport during their absence?
39 days have passed. After the break, the first plane with passengers on board in Wrocław was a Boeing from Alicante, Spain, redirected from Kraków. It landed on Thursday (December 4) a few minutes after 8:00 p.m.
“We are returning the airport to passengers” announced Renata Granowska, Vice President of Wrocław and Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Wrocław Airport.

Changes in the car park, terminal, and runway
On the 40th day since flights were suspended, i.e. on Friday, December 5, before sunrise, passengers flew to Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Scotland, the Netherlands, and other countries. Wrocław Airport is once again operating at full capacity. Even at a higher capacity than before, because after the changes, the throughput is better and safer.
Today, we have completed a very important stage of the largest investment in the history of Wrocław Airport, but we are not stopping there. The airport will continue to develop.
Renata Granowska
During the several weeks without flights, work was mainly carried out on the runway, but in fact, this entire stage of the investment began much earlier – in October 2024. “I report that the task has been completed” announced Karol Przywara, president of Wrocław Airport, on the evening of Thursday, December 4.
New parking system:
- infrastructure and software,
- more payment options,
- the possibility of paying at exit columns,
- improved online booking.
Investments in the terminal:
- expansion of the central security checkpoint, including 5 automatic checkpoints – as a result, service should be faster and queues for security checks shorter;
- reconstruction and modernization of the Baltona Duty Free zone (interesting fact: there is a special offer for Koreans);
- renovation of the food court, including refurbishment of the Check-In Bar and addition of a Paul outlet.
Construction of key elements of new infrastructure in the flight operations area (outside):
- integration of three taxiways into the runway,
- incorporation of a rapid exit taxiway into the runway,
- installation of electrical and telecommunications networks,
- installation of navigation lighting,
- change of horizontal and vertical signage,
- first stage of adapting the aviation infrastructure to dual-use (civil and military aircraft use the same runway, etc.).
The challenge of doing so many things in such a short time was given to Strabag, and they deserve our appreciation and gratitude for completing the task on time and within budget. The military was also involved, doing its part in parallel.
Karol Przywara
This stage of the airport's reconstruction cost at least PLN 463 million, including PLN 175 million in funding from the European Union.

Hampton by Hilton – a new hotel already welcoming guests
That's not all. A separate investment, carried out at a similar time, was the construction of a three-star Hilton hotel next to the terminal, which is now open and welcoming guests. Guests have at their disposal:
- 122 rooms,
- a fitness room,
- a space called The Hub – with a reception, lobby, and bar,
- and the Gate conference room.
The rooms offer views of the airport and the surrounding fields. Takeoffs and landings can even be watched while exercising on a treadmill. Sound insulation is important. You can hardly hear the planes in the hotel.
Michał Zbąski, director of the Hampton by Hilton Wrocław Airport hotel
The director announced that on the first weekend after opening, December 6 and 7, 2025, occupancy could reach 80 percent.
Wrocław's strong position among regional airports
Paweł Gancarz, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Province, is delighted with the resumption of flights at Wrocław Airport. At Thursday's ceremony, he thanked everyone who planned, prepared, and successfully carried out the investment.
When flights were suspended here and we had to travel to other cities, we realized how convenient it is to have such an airport nearby. Wrocław Airport is truly a window to the world. It is worth noting that it is also one of the few airports in Poland that is also used by the military.
Paweł Gancarz

Even before the break in flights, Wrocław set a record for passenger numbers – over 4.5 million passengers in a year. Adam Sanocki from the management board of Polish Airports appreciates the growing numbers in this and other statistical categories: “An airport is not just a place where you arrive and depart from. It has a huge impact on economic development, for example on job creation, and Wrocław also has something to boast about in this field".
Not only is our airport in a phase of development, but its position on the map of Poland and in this part of Europe – according to Mr. Sanocki – is really strong.
The domestic aviation industry is currently experiencing an incredible boom. Poland is investing tens of billions of zlotys in the Central Communication Port, but is also allocating nine billion to regional airport infrastructure. Among them, Wrocław is a jewel in the crown.
Adam Sanocki
