The Polish Wolf of Wall Street
- We want to look at the issue of money from different perspectives. So we will talk both about raising capital from investors, as well as building a company from our own funds or using crowdfunding - says Ewa Kaucz, CEO of the Wrocław Agglomeration Development Agency, which is the organizer of the event. - During the conference, we will certainly confront the points of view of experienced representatives of VC funds and startup founders. We will also show that business success can be achieved in various ways - adds Kaucz.
Marek Zmysłowski and Lawrence Barclay will come to Wrocław at ARAW's invitation. Zmysłowski is a serial entrepreneur who once founded Mementis - a startup in the funeral industry in our city. Then he worked for Rocket Internet - one of the most famous funds in the Internet industry, for which he co-founded Jovago.com in Nigeria - a website he calls African Booking.com.
Zmysłowski recently wrote a book titled Chasing Black Unicorns: How building the Amazon of Africa put me on Interpol's Most Wanted list. It honestly describes the realities of running a business in Nigeria, but also working for an international investment fund and creating a startup in Poland.
Investor from Kulczyk
On the other hand, Lawrence Barclay is the managing manager of Manta Ray Ventures, a fund founded by Sebastian Kulczyk - one of the richest man in Poland. Previously, he worked for DN Capital, where he invested in technology companies from Europe and the USA.
Currently, Barclay is intensively observing startups in our country and the entire Central and Eastern Europe, actively participating in the InCredibles program, initiated by Sebastian Kulczyk. In 2018, two startups from Wrocław became its finalists - Infermedica and Genomtec.
