Students of WUST Racing Team have ranked fifth in the general classification of the Student Formula race in the UK, marking the most successful performance in the team's history. There were 130 teams from over 30 countries competing on the Silverstone track. - The first place on the famous Silverstone race track was won by Stuttgart University, the second place went to Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, while the third - to the University of Technology in Graz. The team of Wrocław University of Science and Technology outstripped all other Polish teams, with the team of Białystok University of Technology ranking 33rd in the general classification and the students of Warsaw University of Technology taking the 95th place. The British race was the début of the RT07 racing car, which had taken the students a whole year to make. The 195 kg vehicle features a structural approach referred to as monocoque, a construction built from carbon prepregs, foam, so-called aluminium honeycomb, polyamid and epoxy resin. It is equipped with an aerodynamic package, i.e. front and rear wings, whose purpose is to improve the car's grip when turning. The team of Wrocław University of Science and Technology was Poland's first to take part in the Student Formula competition in 2009 held also in the UK, presenting then its RT09 virtual design. At the subsequent edition of the event, the team already showed its first racing car - the RT01. Currently, there are over 500 student teams from all over the world participating in the competition, including eight Polish ones. The unquestionable leader between Polish teams is WUST Racing Team, which last year proved its position of the champion (by winning the ninth place three times - in competitions held in the UK, Germany and the USA).
