From 25 to 27 September 2021, Cengiz Kamil Firat, the Turkish Ambassador to the Republic of Poland, visited Wrocław. One of the main goals of the event was a meeting with the city authorities, during which the possibilities of cooperation between Turkey and Wrocław were discussed.

- There are many areas in which the potential opportunities for our cooperation are very large - says Jakub Mazur, vice-president of Wrocław. - We talked with representatives of business, culture and the world of science. Thanks to this, we were able to discuss many issues that are extremely interesting from the perspective of Wrocław and Turkey. These include, first and foremost, the economic potential of both sides. We also talked about the possibility of a direct air connection with Turkey from the Wrocław airport. I am convinced that these talks will result not only in partnership, but also very attractive events for our residents.

During the ambassador's visit, work on an agreement on a partnership between Wrocław and Turkish Izmir was also started.

Possible turkology at the University of Wrocław

The ambassador's visit plan also included a meeting with the Turkish community, which numbered 130 people and 300 students in Wrocław. Cengiz Kamil Firat handed the consular insignia to the Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Wrocław, Wojciech Kamiński. It took place at the headquarters of the Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey in Wrocław, which has been operating at Solny Square since December 2019.

Cengiz Kamil Firat also met with representatives of Wrocław universities to talk, inter alia, on student exchange and the possibility of opening the field of turkology at the University of Wrocław. In turn, at the seat of the Western Chamber of Commerce, the ambassador talked with entrepreneurs about the possibilities of economic cooperation and about the opening of a direct air connection between Wrocław and Turkey.

A window to the Asian market

According to the Turkish ambassador, Poland is developing very quickly and the Turkish market has great potential.

- We want to create bilateral investments, for example in connection with the implementation of new initiatives, such as Via Baltica - believes Cengiz Kamil Firat - We would like to increase the number of Polish investments in Turkey and Turkish investments in Poland. I think that Asia is currently the most promising investment direction, and we can be a window to this market. We also care about scientific exchange and cooperation between science and business, among others in the field of IT, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence. I hope that our contacts with the Wrocław University of Science and Technology will be developed.

The Turkish delegation included, among others, Embassy Counselors for Political, Commercial, Cultural and Consular Affairs and Director General of the Warsaw Office of Turkish Airlines and Director of the Yunus Emre Institute of the Turkish Cultural Center.
