Wroclaw for entrepreneurs. They talked about a business-friendly city
Support offered by the city to Wroclaw entrepreneurs and startups, trends in the labor market and the needs of business owners were the main topics discussed by participants of the "Wroclaw for Entrepreneurs" conference, which took place on June 18 in the Session Hall of the Wroclaw City Hall.
Wroclaw entrepreneurs, local government officials, representatives of the Economic Development Office of the Wroclaw City Hall, the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency and the Regional Office of AHK Poland in Wroclaw were the participants of the "Wroclaw for Entrepreneurs" conference. It was held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in the Session Room of the Wroclaw City Hall.
Wroclaw needs business, and business needs Wroclaw
As Sergiusz Kmiecik, Plenipotentiary of the Mayor of Wroclaw for Economic Development, said at the start of the meeting, everything the City Council does "city-making" is aimed at supporting business.
The efficiency of public transportation or the record high in Poland for placing children in nurseries and kindergartens are issues that affect the development of economic life. They make our city a great place to live and business wants to locate here. Wroclaw needs business, and business needs Wroclaw.
Sergiusz Kmiecik
An entrepreneur-friendly city
Marcin Urban, Treasurer of Wroclaw, talked about how the capital of Lower Silesia is becoming a business-friendly city.
We are committed to animating and encouraging all participants in this discussion to create a friendly, good environment for entrepreneurship in Wroclaw. This is that most important goal. We are thinking about a new approach to the entrepreneurship strategy. We are working on supplementing it with current issues.
Marcin Urban
Conditions that allow for business success
On the other hand, Malgorzata Golak, director of the Economic Development Office of the Wroclaw City Hall, talked about the possibilities of support for SMEs.
In Wroclaw we currently have almost 150 thousand business entities. This is an increase of 4.9 percent compared to last year, and this number is still growing. The smallest companies employing up to 10 people number 91 thousand, which is truly spectacular.
Malgorzata Golak
It turns out that the increase in revenue of Wroclaw companies is also visible. It is particularly high in companies employing more than 10 people in the service and industrial sectors. Last year it amounted to about 12 percent.
It can be seen that conditions are being created in Wroclaw that allow for business success.

It is important to connect small businesses with large ones
In turn, Magdalena Okulowska, president of the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency, spoke about support for large companies and start-ups. As she says, the agency was established in 2005 and its task then was mainly to attract foreign investors. Whereas today we have a completely different situation - first of all a more mature business and sustainable economy, as well as a certain attractiveness in the labor market.
Today, we are keen on targeted investments and cooperation between larger businesses and small ones, connecting startups with investors, and making sure that this ecosystem creates our regional new quality and competitive advantages.
Magdalena Okulowska
Participants also discussed the challenges facing employers, trends in the labor market and the needs of today's entrepreneurs.
According to Malgorzata Golak, the meeting was much needed, as it addressed the synergy of the city's activities in supporting entrepreneurship.
The large turnout testifies to the need for such meetings.
