The resilience and competitiveness of Polish small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as how best to prepare for the coming changes in the economy, were the main themes of the nationwide conference ‘Ready for the Future’, which took place on 24 September 2026 at the Wrocław Technology Park. Over 20 speakers and around 150 participants discussed, amongst other things, how to bring together business, academia, government, local authorities and business support organisations so that, together, they can create an environment in which Polish SMEs can respond more quickly to change and continue to grow.

It is very important that we are meeting in a venue dedicated to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as it is primarily them we are discussing. I am delighted that this day will mark the first day of the future that we are designing today and for which we are already prepared.

Maciej Potocki, CEO of Wrocław Technology Park

From collaboration to investment in the development of innovative companies

The topics discussed included, amongst others: new technologies, the development of innovation, knowledge transfer, SMEs’ access to research facilities, and the building of partnerships to support business development.

The event also featured a debate involving representatives of the Consortium of Science and Technology Parks – which brings together five leading technology parks in Poland – on their role in supporting entrepreneurs, the commercialisation of research results, technology transfer, and fostering cooperation between business, academia and public administration.

For its part, the Wrocław Technology Park presented plans for its further development as one of Poland’s largest centres supporting innovation and business growth. The vision involves developing the WPT into a new-generation technology park – one that is not limited to providing premises, but offers much more to the entire region.

We are planning to establish an Agglomeration Development Zone. We want to create a new-generation technology park for Polish SMEs, where companies will be able to go the whole way from concept and research, through implementation, right up to scaling up their operations and production. This is the direction we wish to develop jointly with local government, business, academia and business support organisations.

An ever-improving quality of life and cooperation with business

Grzegorz Roman, Deputy Mayor of Wrocław, spoke about how the capital of Lower Silesia should prepare for future challenges and strengthen its image as a city that is one of the most attractive not only in Poland but also in Europe.

For years, Wrocław has been associated with major investments and the presence of global companies. This is an important part of our economic history and one of the cornerstones of the city’s standing. But a strong and resilient economy cannot rely solely on major players. It is also underpinned by thousands of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, which every day create jobs, develop new technologies, collaborate with local suppliers and build the resilience of the entire region. The local authority’s role is to create the conditions in which entrepreneurs can thrive: efficient administration, good infrastructure, predictable regulations and, above all, a network of cooperation between business, academia and the public sector

Useful insights and new contacts

Among the conference participants were representatives of businesses, public administration, the academic community, business support organisations and science and technology parks.

Today’s conference is dedicated, amongst other things, to the challenges facing Polish companies and how small and medium-sized enterprises should operate at present, in these difficult times. I am here to update my knowledge of the general economic situation in the country, as well as to meet other entrepreneurs.

The future brings both hope and concern

As Radosław Michalski, Director of the City Brand Department at Wrocław City Council, observes, the future holds great promise but also raises concerns regarding new technologies; it is also full of challenges relating, amongst other things, to demographics, access to raw materials and environmental issues, for which we must prepare.

Wrocław’s brand today is based on entrepreneurship, creativity and the activities of residents and the businesses operating here. We are delighted that the Wrocław Technology Park has taken up this topic, which will enable these businesses to better prepare for the future by sharing experiences and learning about new trends. Thanks to this, Wrocław’s brand stands a chance of remaining more stable in the future as well.

The organisers of the ‘Ready for the Future’ conference have announced a post-conference publication. This will be a collection of speakers’ views responding to a common question regarding the directions of the Polish economy’s development. The publication will also present the conclusions and recommendations arising from the discussions held.
