Wroclaw towards Smart City
What distinguishes a smart city? What do intelligent offices and office buildings look like? The participants of the conference "Wroclaw towards a Smart City" discussed the present and future of technological innovations and their impact on the standard of living of the inhabitants.
The conference "Wrocław towards Smart City" attracted many distinguished guests to the Zajezdnia History Center, who talked about innovative solutions that have been implemented for years in Wrocław and in other Polish and foreign cities. It was noticed that each year the world population is growing dynamically in urban centers, which poses new challenges for the authorities and residents. Both groups strive to make cities as friendly as possible, providing users with good conditions for living, working, studying, and relaxing. It is from these needs, along with the emergence of new opportunities offered by technological progress, that the idea of a smart city was born, i.e. a city that uses technologies to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants while developing in a sustainable way. - We will share everything that we think is smart in Wrocław. I hope that everyone will leave the conference with heads full of new ideas, possibilities, and willingness to further develop our city. Perhaps not everyone knows, but you are in a facility that once had a completely different function, and thanks to modern technologies has undergone a metamorphosis - said Maciej Bluj, vice-president of Wrocław at the opening of the conference.
6 areas treated equally
There are 6 areas that must be treated equally so that the city develops in a sustainable way and actually becomes a more and more "smart center". These are: intelligent mobility, intelligent economy, intelligent management of environmental resources, support for human capital, improvement of the quality of life of residents, as well as intelligent city management. It is the implementation of multi-dimensional strategies covering all of the above-mentioned planes that is the way to create a truly smart city. - Wrocław is a city full of energy and numerous challenges that we constantly set for ourselves to raise the lives of our inhabitants. As part of Smart City, we cooperate with many companies that allow us and co-create solutions that are consciously or not used by the inhabitants of Wrocław. Smart tip, Vozilla, the Mobill application, ITS, Smartflow, city internet, open data or Citylab are just some of the technologies that accompany the inhabitants of the capital of Lower Silesia in everyday life - said Artur Wawrzyniak from the Office of Project Management of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences during the presentation of smart solutions in Wrocław."Technology should affect the lives of residents"
The speakers unanimously agreed that technology should affect the lives of residents, but at the same time its range should extend far beyond the administrative boundaries of the city. The real Smart City is not suspended in a vacuum, but it is an important center in the international exchange of technical ideas, knowledge and capital. - Whether a city is smart is determined by the subjective opinion of its residents. Then we can divide solutions into technical and those that actually facilitate the life of the population, while reducing the cost of maintaining the city. I am sure that we can be the leaders of Smart City in Poland, but also abroad, and we must always strive for this - added Dr. Waldemar Grzebyk from the Wrocław University of Technology. During his lecture, he presented, among others an innovative closed-loop process in which new technologies are implemented, large amounts of data and information about the city's functioning are collected and analyzed, conclusions are drawn on the basis of the analyzes carried out, decisions and management actions are made, and processes taking place in the city are optimized. - In order to be able to say that devices, objects or cities are intelligent, they must first learn something, and they learn thanks to the data collected from sensors and sensors installed in specially dedicated measurement systems - noted Dr. Waldemar Grzebyk.Premiere of the report, intelligent office buildings and offices
The conference "Wrocław towards Smart City" is also the premiere of the report, which was prepared by Knight Frank in cooperation with the Office of Project Management of the Marshal's Office, the Wrocław Agglomeration Development Agency, and Dr. Waldemar Grzebyk. - This is a special year for our company, as we have already had 20 years of operation not only in Poland but also in Wrocław. Therefore, we feel obliged to pay attention to the specificity of a smart city. Already more than half of the world's people live in cities, and from year to year there will only be more of them. Moreover, cities generate 80% of the total electricity demand and are responsible for 70% of greenhouse gas emissions. The main consumers of energy and significant gas emitters are buildings - Elżbieta Czerpak from Knight Frank revealed the details of the report. Magdalena Oksańska and Marta Badura, on the other hand, discussed intelligent office buildings and an intelligent office. - We cannot talk about a smart city without smart buildings. It is an inseparable whole that must harmonize and function with each other. The regulations of some buildings are changed frequently to make them more user-friendly. The future is zero-energy buildings, offices tailored to the individual needs of employees, maximum use of automation and sensor systems, or working in accordance with nature - this is how the direction of smart office development is seen through the eyes of Magdalena Oksańska from Knight Frank. - Working at home gives you greater productivity, but you should remember that innovation comes from being able to exchange ideas. Therefore, remote work is not an ideal solution, but it should smoothly transition into office work. That is why intelligent rooms are so important, as their solutions can bring only benefits - said Marta Badura from Knight Frank.Discussion panel
The conference ended with a discussion panel attended by Ewa Kaucz (president of the Wrocław Agglomeration Development Agency), Konrad Fuławka (director of the Nokia Garage Innovation Center), Maciej Rogowski (Velis) and Dr. Waldemar Grzebyk from Wrocław University of Science and Technology, along with Vice President Maciej Bluj. - It should be remembered that there is no fully smart city and it will never be the case. Lots of things have already been done, but consider the fact that technology is constantly changing and evolving and there is still a lot of work to be done. However, we are constantly introducing new services for residents who often use them intuitively and do not wonder if this particular convenience is smart - said Ewa Kaucz, president of the Wrocław Agglomeration Development Agency. Vice President Maciej Bluj also emphasized that the key element is the ability to respond to people's needs by finding the right tool. - All the time I try to observe what and how could be improved. However, the pace of social development does not fully answer the question of whether long-term planning is the right direction in which we should go.Source: https://www.wroclaw.pl/smartcity/wroclaw-w-kierunku-smart-city
