Wroclaw University of Science and Technology joins the One Water consortium

Wroclaw University of Science and Technology has joined the One Water consortium, which has just submitted an application to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) for the establishment of a new Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) dedicated to the water, marine and maritime sectors – KIC Water, Marine and Maritime (KIC WMM).
On Water is a consortium bringing together leading industry representatives, innovative small and medium-sized enterprises, research institutes and academic centers, including the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology . It has just submitted an application to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology for the establishment of a new Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) dedicated to the water, maritime and shipping sectors and ecosystems (KIC WMM).
"We are very pleased to join One Water. We are delighted that Wroclaw University of Science and Technology can be part of such an ambitious and necessary undertaking" says Profesor Renata Krzyżyńska, Vice-Rector for External Relations at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology.
Impact on Europe's water security
The Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) is intended to be a response to the increasingly urgent and interrelated challenges of today – climate change, growing water shortages, the deteriorating state of water ecosystems, and the need to implement sustainable, environmentally friendly solutions that reduce waste and increase resource efficiency.
As a university with a strong research base and an interdisciplinary approach, we see this cooperation as an opportunity to have a real impact on Europe's water security.

New solutions and qualified staff
The application submitted to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology aims to integrate the so-called knowledge triangle: innovation, education, and entrepreneurship. Its goal is to provide innovative solutions, support commercialization, and educate specialists ready to face the challenges of the future in the water, marine, and shipping ecosystems sector.
We will find out whether the EIT will accept the application in the fourth quarter of this year. While waiting for the decision, we are already defining areas of cooperation with potential partners and common priorities, designing possible courses of action in the areas of research, education, and innovation.
Prof. Renata Krzyżyńska
If the One Water application is selected, KIC WMM will become the tenth Knowledge and Innovation Community in Europe, alongside existing initiatives focused on energy, food, health and digitization, among others.
Currently, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology actively cooperates with the EIT, including within the EIT InnoEnergy and EIT RawMaterials programs.
