A New Chapter for Green Zebras

Green Zebras is entering a new phase of development, shifting its focus toward biotechnology projects dedicated to animal health. The company intends to leverage experience and scientific know-how gained from drug development programs originally designed for human medicine.

The new strategy is based on building a lean and cost-efficient organization operating as a virtual biotech. This model relies on a small research and development team responsible for managing projects while collaborating with external scientific partners and contract research organizations.

Wrocław Projects for Animal Health

According to the company, efforts are already underway to acquire the first projects involving the adaptation of drug candidates initially developed for human healthcare to veterinary applications.

"Projects will be carried out within the virtual biotech framework. This means an agile, compact R&D team without its own laboratory infrastructure, managing research programs and outsourcing experimental work to external partners. Ultimately, our portfolio will include up to four drug development projects running simultaneously" Dr. Ewelina Pawlus-Czerniejewska, CEO of Green Zebras SA.

The company's business model is based on selling developed projects, entering partnering agreements, and licensing technologies to global veterinary pharmaceutical companies.

Strategy Through 2030

Green Zebras' development roadmap extends to 2030. The company intends to focus on therapeutic areas with significant market potential, including:

  • Oncology
  • Cardiology
  • Nephrology
  • Geriatrics

Priority will be given to diseases affecting companion animals, particularly dogs, cats, and horses.

The company does not rule out expanding into other therapeutic areas in the future. However, it has stated that it will not pursue therapies based on stem cells and is already preparing to launch its first projects.

Translating Human Medicine into Veterinary Solutions

According to company representatives, one of the most promising opportunities lies in leveraging research results generated during the development of human medicines.

"We are at an advanced stage of identifying opportunities and conducting discussions with scientists and biotech companies, both in Poland and internationally. We see enormous potential in transferring early-stage drug development projects from human medicine to veterinary medicine, following the necessary adaptations. The original developers of these projects rarely consider animals as target species, yet veterinary development can offer a faster and more cost-effective route to commercialization in a highly attractive market" said Dr. Ewelina Pawlus-Czerniejewska.

Green Zebras therefore offers researchers and innovators a mutually beneficial model, providing an alternative pathway for commercializing their discoveries through veterinary applications.

International Ambitions

The company's primary target markets will be the United States and the European Union. Green Zebras plans to select projects with the strongest commercial potential and advance them until strategic industry partners are secured to support further financing and market implementation.

The new strategy aligns with the continued growth of Wrocław's life sciences and biotechnology sector, which has long been one of the most dynamic segments of the region's economy.
