Intelligent Transport System (well known as ITS) was chosen to take part in the final of the RegioStars Awards 2016 competition, organized by European Commission. Is Wrocław’s investment going to win? We will find out in October. The aim of the RegioStars Award competition, which is organized every year, is identification and promotion of the good projects in the area of regional development. European Commission chooses projects which can become an inspiration for another regions. In this year’s edition among 23 finalists, 14 from EU, 4 competitors are from Poland. The finalists are chosen by an independent jury. There are five categories. Wrocław’s investment became a finalist of the category CityStar – innovative solutions for sustainable city development. In this category also 4 more projects occurs, one from them is also from Poland (revitalization of Lower Town in Gdańsk). The ceremony, during which the winners will be announced, will happen on the 11th of October 2016 in Brussels, during the European Week of Regions and Cities. The main prize for the winner, in every category is a RegioStars trophy and certificate given by the Regional Politics Commissioner Corina Creţu and the head of the RegioStars jury. Wrocław ITS system is a developed information system, which gains data about current situation on roads from control and measuring devices and Wrocław public transport vehicles. Information is later processed in the Movement and Public Transport Management Centre and shared with the users of the roads and with the passengers of the public transport. Gained information allow to adjust the work of the traffic lights to the conditions on the road and post information on the electronic boards which are located across the city.
