GE Aerospace and Lufthansa Technik – XEOS

XEOS is a high-tech MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) plant established as a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Lufthansa Technik, specializing in the inspection, repair and maintenance of CFM International engines (CFM International is a joint venture in which GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines each hold a 50% stake) LEAP engines, which power the most popular narrow-body aircraft. This category includes the CFM LEAP-1A power units used in the Airbus A320neo family and the CFM LEAP-1B used in Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The opening of this plant emphasizes our commitment to the development of global MRO services for CFM LEAP engines and GE Aerospace's long-term commitment to Poland

XEOS - an important investment for the agglomeration

Today's opening of XEOS is the second such celebration in the history of this plant. As a reminder, the XEOS Aircraft Engine Repair and Overhaul Center in Środa Śląska near Wrocław opened in September 2019. In June 2021, due to the crisis in the aviation industry, XEOS suspended operations. Now the plant has reopened.

Robert Burton, managing director of XEOS, emphasized in an interview with the wroclaw.pl portal that the construction of the XEOS plant in 2019 cost 250 million USD. In 2025, they will invest 40 million USD there.

In 2025, the plant is expected to service 36 engines. In the future, the plant's development plans foresee servicing one engine per day. The engines will fit on normal trucks, so there will be no difficulties during transportation.

We are very proud of XEOS' presence in the Wroclaw metropolitan area. The investment, which began in 2019, emphasizes the growing importance of the aviation industry in our region. We are extremely pleased that the plant is back and stronger with ambitious development plans.

XEOS is looking for employees

The XEOS plant is a modern facility with an area of 35,000 square meters, including an engine pre-inspection hall, a main assembly and disassembly hall, an advanced cleaning and inspection line, a constantly growing number of repair stations, a training center, and a state-of-the-art test chamber.

The XEOS team currently consists of 250 people – aircraft engine mechanics, engineers, logisticians and administrative staff – and they are always looking for new people.

Firstly, we are looking for aircraft engine technicians with or without experience, as we offer specialized training courses that last from 9 to 12 months.

Iwona Uchnast, Senior HR Manager - XEOS Site HR Leader.

“We have training engines on site, which is why we are able to quickly develop the competences of our staff and build a team of highly qualified specialists in the Wroclaw region,” said Robert Burton, Managing Director of XEOS.

“It was therefore a natural step to have LOT's first engine serviced at XEOS in Poland. This modern facility is an excellent complement to our LEAP engine service infrastructure in Hamburg,” adds Christian Seitler.

XEOS near Wroclaw services LOT engines

Lufthansa Technik and LOT Polish Airlines announced the signing of a service agreement for CFM LEAP-1B engines in January 2025. Currently, the Polish national carrier operates a fleet of 18 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and another 13 aircraft are on order, which means a total of 62 LEAP-1B engines and additional spare units.

We are happy to see our CFM LEAP-1B engines being serviced by local specialists at the XEOS facility.

Maciej Maciejewicz, Head of the Propulsion Department at LOT Polish Airlines.

“This modern service center and highly qualified staff bring with them a huge potential for benefits not only for our airline, but also for the dynamically developing aviation sector in Poland,” says Maciej Maciejewicz.
