Young scientists at WrocDocSoc. An agreement between Wrocław doctoral schools
WrocDocSoc is a new initiative of doctoral schools from nine public universities, which provides young scientists with a space for cross-sector cooperation, exchange of experiences, and promotion of achievements—all in dialogue with city authorities and regional businesses.
WrocDocSoc is the result of the recently inaugurated Wrocław Doctoral Schools Agreement – it opens up a wider field for cross-sector cooperation, exchange of experiences, and promotion of young scientists. It is an opportunity for development for over 1,800 doctoral students in Wrocław, as well as for the city, which can implement the innovations proposed by young scientists.

Doctoral students for the future of Wrocław
On Tuesday (January 13), the Wrocław City Hall hosted the event "City of Science – Science for the City. Doctoral students for the future of Wrocław" during which the Agreement of Doctoral Schools of Wrocław was officially inaugurated. The initiative thus created gives doctoral students from nine public universities in Wrocław a space for cooperation, presenting their research results, and establishing cross-sector contacts.
We wholeheartedly supported this project, believing that building a strong academic community open to dialogue with its surroundings is beneficial for the whole of Wrocław. Doctoral students and doctors are a key development resource - a source of innovation, knowledge, and competence, without which it is difficult to build a competitive city with big ambitions.
Jakub Mazur, Vice President of Wrocław
An important element of WrocDocSoc is cooperation with city authorities, but also with representatives of regional business. The result of cross-sector dialogue may be the implementation of innovative solutions proposed by doctoral students in the city.
The role of universities and scientists who are able to implement innovations in the city is the most important direction in our Wrocław Development Strategy “Wrocław 2050,” which is why I am very happy that the importance of educating doctoral students, based on agreement and the creation of interdisciplinary projects that we so desperately need, has just been emphasized. There is no innovation without science, and there is no science without scientists.
Magdalena Okulowska, President of the Board of the Wrocław Agglomeration Development Agency

A wide spectrum of research by Wrocław doctoral students
Currently, 1,800 doctoral students are studying in almost 50 disciplines at Wrocław's doctoral schools. The format of the inaugural meeting of the Wrocław Doctoral Schools Agreement allowed some of them to present the results of their research to a wider audience. As part of the poster session and during the “My PhD in 3 minutes” presentation, young scientists talked about, among other things, the space sector, fine arts, pharmaceutical and medical sciences, and economics and finance.
Participants in the event had the opportunity to meet and talk to the authors of doctoral dissertations on topics such as:
- extending the survival of transplanted kidneys using artificial intelligence,
- the vision of southern Poland and former mining areas presented in mezzotint graphics,
- research on the optoelectronic properties of nanostructures,
- the creation of a Virtual Therapeutic Garden for parents of children with leukemia,
- and a multifaceted study of perimenopausal changes.

The event also featured a panel discussion entitled “Talent, knowledge, influence – doctoral students for an innovative society” which was attended by representatives of various communities, including NOKIA, Lubawa, the National Forum of Music, and the University Clinical Hospital.
