Wrocław's project "Nowe Żerniki - A Residential Estate of the European Capital of Culture", also referred to as WUWa 2, has been included in the final of a competition for the most innovative urban project, organised by the international association of urban and regional planners ISOCARP. The prestigious ISOCARP Award for Excellence is granted every year by professionals operating in the area of urban planning, while the finalists present themselves at the world congress. This year's meeting is held in Durban, RSA, on September 12-16 under the banner "Cities We have vs. Cities We Need". This year, the event will be attended by prominent guests including Guy Perry, Vanessa Watson, Nicholas You and Michael Hardman. - The paragon residential estate "Nowe Żerniki", designed by the best Wrocław based architects, will cater in a comprehensive manner to the needs of its future tenants - says Jacek Barski, Director of the Municipality’s Department of Architecture and Development. - It will be part of the city based on ideas of new urban planning, with a community centre and a little local market inviting both young people and the elderly. A place with a crèche, nursery school, school and a family doctor. The originally designed public spaces will facilitate building social bonds. The buildings and the infrastructure will meet the requirements of the eco-friendly development - he adds. International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) is an association of professionals operating in the area of urban planning and development. It was established in 1965 with the aim of creating a platform for wide cooperation and exchange of experiences within an international network. The first president of ISOCARP was its co-founder Professor Sam van Embden. The association has over 700 individual members as well as member institutions hailing from more than 80 countries. The present head of ISOCARP is the American Richard Stephens. The association is headquartered in The Hague.
